If you’re a blogger, chances are you’re not getting the all important search engine traffic you could. Don’t worry, most other bloggers don’t either because they don’t understand how search engines work and how important it is for their blogs to rank high for their chosen keywords. Failing to bring in targeted traffic is one reason many bloggers stop trying to make money with affiliate programs and find the next scheme to jump into.

SEO’ing your blog post is simple. It can be done in 3 easy steps. By doing these three steps all the time, you can increase traffic and make the difference in a blog that makes its blogger very little income or a blog that creates wealth for the Blogger.

Here are a few simple tips to SEO optimize every post you upload and start taking advantage of free targeted Internet users.

To begin with, you should make absolutely sure that your post url’s are optimized for the search engines. With free blogs like Google’s Blogger blogs, this is already done. If you use WordPress, then set your permalinks so that blog creates optimized url’s when you write a post.

The way you do this in WordPress is go to the Permalinks tab, and click the radio button along side the Custom field. Then you’ll put a percentage sign followed by the words Postname. {Immediately after the words postname, Now} put another percent symbol. Now all your blog post will have SEO optimized urls.

The best tip to optimizing your blog is to put your main keyword in the Title. If you’re blogging about to make fast money, then you’ll want these keywords in your Blog’s title. Don’t put something like Johns Blog. Using the keywords in the Title, then you’ll rank higher than if you name your blog something that does not relate to your main keyword.

The next important step is to use the keywords in the Post’s title. If you want blog readers to click on your post about using Ebay to to make extra money, then put the keywords in the post title. Not irrelevant keywords like How I Make Money With Auctions. If you do this, the search engines will have trouble determining what your post is about and prevents search engine users from finding your blog post. This is especially important if you’re trying to make money with Adsense.

These 3 tips will be helping the Search Engines determine what your post and blog are about. By taking a little extra time and making it easy for them to determine what subject your blog post is about, the search engines will rank you higher in the Search Engine ranking pages.

Now the only thing you’ll need is to build links to your blog and blog post. But alas, there isn’t enough room here to go ito the details of link building. First, get acquainted optimizing your own blog and blog post.

For the aveage Webmaster, Search Engine Optimization is something that only people with years of experience can master. As a SEO in Houston it’s my belief that a lot of this is because of all the snake oil written by self described SEO Guru’s. Some do this because they do not know any better while many others do it because their Clients would stop paying them if they knew how easy it was to rank a web site. SEO isn’t rocket science peeps. It’s as simple as following a few instructions each time you build a website.

For starters, a person should make certain keywords are part of the domain name if it’s possible. With everything being equal, a Website with your keywords in the address will rank higher than a website without the keywords in the domain name.

Next, the you keywords should be used in the Name of your Website. This helps search engines like Google determine what it is that you Website is all about.

Keywords should also be placed in the Title of each article on your Website, or at least, the Title of the page should contain your some keywords. This also helps the search engines come to a conclusion as to what the page is about, what words to rank it for and how relevant it is. Also, the Website or Blog should be designed so that the Page Title is in the H1 tag. Search engines rely a great deal on the H1 to tell them what the page is about and how relevant it is. If you’re using a Houston web design company, make certain they know how to do this one little thing.

Now that you have your domain, Website Title (Name) and Page Titles optimized with your keywords, it’s crucial that the words you wish your website to rank higher for show up within the page itself. For best results, you should place the main keyword of the page somewhere in the first paragraph and several more times througout the article depending on the length. It’s also important to put it near the end of the page or article. A few more times between the first and last paragraph won’t hurt, whatever you do, make certain to use them in the beginning and end.

Last up, the most important aspect of Website Search Engine Optimization actually takes place off site. In my opinion, the most important thing in getting higher ranks for a Website is backlinks leading back to your Web page. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these backward links need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the links back to your site.

How important are links back to your site? I have ranked quite a few Websites that didn’t have the keywords in the URL, plus I can rank one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without anchored backward links going to your web page, {it is almost impossible} to to get higher rankings in the search engines for any search phrases that are the least bit competitive.

There are a number of steps I always follow when optimizing a site for SEO (note these are just the high points, there are others that I don’t mention here, but these WILL take you a long way):

1) If it’s a new site, I will include the keywords in a non hyphenated domain name (if you can get a .edu or .gov suffix do so, otherwise a cheap .info will work just fine)

2) If possible, I will rename the URL to each SEO relevant page to include the main keyword for that page.

3) Implement Google Analytics for the site and ensure the tracking script is added to every page (if not already done).

4) Go through the “money” pages and make sure that the title, meta descriptions and meta keywords tags are different and optimized for the keywords on the page. In a competitive niche (over 1 million result pages in Google), I would limit the keywords to one main phrase, a couple of local modifiers and one or two more closely related terms per page.

5) Review the non-money pages (i.e. pages that don’t matter from an SEO perspective) and ensure the title and meta description tags are not duplicates of any of the money page tags. Google Webmaster tools will identify this for you once your site has been crawled.

6) I nofollow any links to overhead pages from all of the pages on the site with the exception of the home page. I leave the home page links as follow links, since I want the SEs to index all pages on the site and having privacy, contact, disclaimer, etc overhead pages add to Google’s view of the “trust” for the site. On all other pages I just want the link to the home page to be a follow link, so I can build up the page rank of the home page. I handle this in Dreamweaver by using two different site templates, one for the home page and one for the rest of the pages on the site. If your main keyword page is something other than the home page, modify your approach accordingly.

7) I then optimize each page’s content for it’s main keywords, modifiers and related terms. It’s important that each word or phrase used in the keyword META is found somewhere on the page to avoid keyword spam issues.

8) At this point the on page optimization is complete enough to start with link building. As you may already know, building links is difficult. I use articles, blog posts, submit forms on relevant sites, reciprocal links, etc. There are ways to short cut this process, without going black hat.
